These instructions describe the installation and adjustment of Turner Take-Up Frames. Read and understand all instructions before beginning installation.
SAFETY WARNINGS
- Disconnect and lock/tag out all power before installation to avoid serious injury.
- Release or properly restrain belt or chain tension before installation or service.
- Properly support the shaft and connected equipment during installation or service to prevent unexpected movement.
- Keep hands and fingers clear of pinch points between the frame, bearing, and adjusting components during installation and adjustment.
- Installation, adjustment, and maintenance should be performed only by qualified personnel familiar with the equipment and associated hazards.

INSTALLATION INSTRUCTIONS
STEP 1 - PRE-INSTALLATION CHECKS
Verify that the Turner take-up frame being installed is compatible with the intended take-up unit (Table 1). Inspect all components for damage or defects and verify that no parts are missing before beginning installation.
STEP 2 - MOUNT THE TAKE-UP FRAME
Secure each take-up frame to a clean, flat mounting surface using appropriately sized fasteners. Confirm that the frames are parallel to one another before tightening the mounting hardware. Proper alignment allows the take-up units to move freely during adjustment and helps prevent damage to bearings, shafts, and connected components.
STEP 3 - INSTALL THE TAKE-UP UNIT
Slide the take-up unit into the open end of the frame, aligning the slots on each side of the bearing housing with the guide rails in the take-up frame. Position the unit so the locking side of the bearing faces away from the machinery. This ensures easy access for installation, adjustment, and maintenance.
STEP 4 - CONNECT THE ADJUSTMENT MECHANISM
Insert the retaining nut into the slot in the take-up unit housing and thread it onto the exposed end of the all-thread rod until the hole in the retaining nut aligns with the hole in the all-thread. Then, while supporting the bearing housing, press or tap the spring pin through the retaining nut and all-thread rod until the pin is centered in the take-up unit housing slot. This secures the assembly and prevents accidental separation of the components.
Using the hex nut welded to the all-thread rod, move the take-up unit through its full adjustment range and confirm that it travels smoothly within the frame. DO NOT completely remove the all-thread rod from the take-up frame, as the internal square nut may become dislodged.
STEP 5 - INSTALL THE SHAFT
Inspect the shaft and remove any burrs, nicks, dirt, or debris that could interfere with installation. Slide the shaft through the take-up units and secure each bearing to the shaft according to the bearing manufacturer’s installation instructions.
STEP 6 - TENSION THE SYSTEM
Adjust each take-up unit in small, equal increments to reposition the shaft and achieve the required system tension while maintaining proper shaft alignment.
DO NOT adjust the take-up unit beyond the frame’s maximum adjustment distance (Table 1) or advance one side of the bearing significantly more than the other. Uneven adjustment can result in excessive bearing loads, shaft deflection, and premature wear.
STEP 7 - FINAL INSPECTION
Confirm that:
- The take-up frames are securely mounted and parallel to one another.
- The spring pin is fully seated and the retaining nut is properly engaged on the all-thread rod.
- The shaft rotates freely without binding.
- The take-up mechanism moves smoothly through the entire adjustment range.
Once these conditions have been verified, installation is complete. Install any guards or safety devices in accordance with applicable regulations before restoring power and operating the equipment.

OPERATION & MAINTENANCE
- Periodically inspect the take-up assembly for proper adjustment and secure hardware during routine equipment maintenance.
- DO NOT use the take-up adjustment to compensate for improper conveyor or shaft alignment, or excessive belt/chain wear.
